Travel and Gas

The following joke is in honor of all those people on their summer vacations, celebrating the 4th of July (or the 1st for all you Canucks), and for everyone who’s ever had to fill up a tank of gas in recent months:

A married couple were sitting in a movie theatre watching an action flick. There was a spectacular scene where the bad guy blows up a gas station. “Wow!” said the husband. The wife was about to acknowledge the pretty impressive explosion when he continued: “Honey, did you see the price of regular? Only $1.96 a gallon!”

Ahhh, those were the days…

Frolick's bikeSo, what does this have to do our feature film Liars and Lunatics? Well, let’s see… There’s not a whole lot of driving in the movie. No car chases. No gas stations get blown up.

Wait a minute. There are some cars parked out in front of the mental institute. We see one of the doctors get out of a minivan. There are people walking. We never see Dr. Donovin drive anything. (Then again, we never see him leave the institute. Hmmm, maybe he sleeps there?)

Dr. Frolick seems pretty aware of alternative methods of travel… Which is probably why she takes her blue bike everywhere.

You think we might get nominated for an academy award based on the ecological elements in the film?

“I’ve been around for many, many years. But I’m no more than a month old. What am I?”

The answer: The Moon

Did you really expect a different answer from the Moon Brothers?

Congratulations to all those riddle-busters out there who solved it long before the midnight hour.

Riddles in the Dark

Everybody loves a riddle, don’t they? J.R.R. Tolkien certainly seems to have enjoyed a good riddle or two in his day.

What does this have to do with our film Liars and Lunatics? Well, to be honest… not much. But if you look at Tolkien’s The Hobbit, you’ll find a chapter featuring a riddle contest. The book’s protagonist, the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, is recruited by 12 dwarves to be their “burglar” on a mission to reclaim the gold hoarded by a dragon.  (Correction: there are actually 13 dwarves, not 12.)

And when you think of the word “burglar”, you might just be led to the thought that Bilbo was both a liar (don’t burglars have to lie to cover their tracks?) and a lunatic (you know, for going on such a journey in the first place)! Which then leads us to the title of our feature film, Liars and Lunatics. Which, by the way, has nothing to do with hobbits. Hmm…

But we’re not letting that stop us from enjoying a good riddle. See if you can figure this one out:

“I’ve been around for many, many years. But I’m no more than a month old. What am I?”

Okay, all you lurkers out there! (Especially those with a penchant for solving riddles.) Now’s the time to comment. Let us know what you think the answer to the riddle is…
